PROTOCOL FOR PRODUCE WASHING

CFA established leafy produce and non-leafy produce wash protocols in 2005 and 2006, respectively, with the aiming of reducing excessive doses of hypochlorite in particular. The protocols have now been consolidated by the Produce WG, with the aim of introducing further consistency into produce washing, for example by Members promoting the protocol’s use by suppliers to the sector.

The consolidated protocol is available as a free digital download to enable wider take up across industry.

Currently worth more than £10bn, it employs more than 100,000 people at 130 sites and each year puts 15,000+ different foods on shelves. CFA represents many of the UK’s biggest chilled food manufacturers.

  • The Chilled Food Association (CFA), the people behind Chilled Education, represents some of the biggest UK chilled food manufacturers. Established 35 years ago, its members supply major retailers with foods ranging from sandwiches and prepared salad to chilled prepared meals and desserts.
